Precocious 11-year-old Mildred (Nell Fisher, EVIL DEAD RISE) is an only child raised by her mother. She escapes her humdrum existence by immersing herself in literary adventures, dreaming of capturing proof of the mythological beast known as The Canterbury Panther — proof that would earn her a substantial cash reward. When an accident leaves her mother incapacitated, Mildred’s long-absent dad, washed-up illusionist Strawn Wise (Elijah Wood, YELLOWJACKETS), arrives to care for the kid he’s never met. The unlikely pair agrees to go camping while her mother recuperates. A tween who has read every outdoor guide but never been camping, and an illusionist more comfortable inside Las Vegas bars, are thrown together in the ultimate test of family bonding in the New Zealand wilderness.
